BLANCO PRESCRIBED BURN ASSOCIATION: (830) 868-7237, Ext 3 (NRCS office in JC). The BPBA was established in Oct 2005 with four goals: share equipment, share labor, train members, and foster good relations between neighbors and within the community in regard to the sue of prescribed burns. BPBA is a chapter of the Hill Country Prescribed Burning Association (based in Kerrville) and works in cooperation with the Pedernales Soil and Water Conservation District and the Natural Resources Conservation Service. Chairman: Al Lindig. 55 members. Prescribed burning is a soil enrichment process that adds needed nitrogen back into the soil for greater plant production. Burning cleans up dead litter build-up and enhances wildlife habitat by creating a niche for forbs production. Burning also helps control invasive species and puts land back into a more balanced environment.

EMERGENCY SERVICES AUXILIARY: (830) 868-2833. This special group of volunteers works every week of the year to collect, sort, price and sell donated goods, with the returns handed over to the Fire and EMS departments. They provide a much valued service to convert donated goods into the cash we need to help run our service. They have there facility in the same building as EMS, and are a joy to see. We thank them for their contribution and friendship. For coordination on drop-off of donated goods, please contact Irma or Gus Sanchez at (830) 868-2833 or Tom Mills at 868-4857. The on-duty EMS crew may be on a call or otherwise not at the station at the time of your delivery, so you should plan on using your own power to unload your goods and stack them at the south end of the building, outside. OARS (Older Adult Rural Services): OARS helps the elderly stay independent by providing transportation to the doctor and grocery store, picking up prescriptions, making friendly phone calls and visits. Those who are in need of assistance may call 830-868-2672. Volunteers are asked to drive once a month, or for those who do not wish to drive, there are other opportunities to help. In 2006, OARS volunteers spent 320 hours on the road, driving 9400 miles, serving 159 clients. Program Director: Diane Burke, 830-868-2672.
