Recycling is very important in today's world.

By taking a few minutes to recycle, you help protect land, air, and water, as well as conserve natural resources and landfill space.

MAKE USE - REDUCE - REUSE - RECYCLE

The Environmental Board supports the Recycling Center which was established by the Johnson City Council.  Our Recycling Center is open on Tuesdays from 9a-4p, and on Saturdays from 8a-noon.

One of the most important things Johnson City residents can do to help protect and save our environment is to recycle.

We want to encourage all residents of Johnson City to start saving recyclable items by dropping them off a the Center.  Many residents are already participating in this important step to help save our planet.

Our Center accepts junk mail, office paper, shredded paper (please bag), feed bags (remove the string), cardboard (run your fingernail over the cardboard and if you get wax it cannot be recycled), plastic bottles (no lids, caps) with a raised triangle on the bottom (that has a 1 or 2 in the center), glass, aluminum, electronics, computers, oil, oil filters, metal, and large appliances (i.e., refrigerators, air conditioners, TVs, VCRs, DVDs).

If you can separate the cardboard, papers, cans, plastic and glass in large garbage sacks, this helps immensely in quickly dispersing these items to the right bin and helps keep our Center clean.

Another service the Center offers in the city limits is a weekly, home, curbside pickup on Thursdays.  Please have your items on the street by 8a.  No cans of oil (these must be taken to the Center).

You can volunteer an an individual or a community service group.  Come help out at the Center by picking up and cleaning around the Center, and accepting and separating items.  This will help keep the Center a neat and orderly place at all times.  Give a helping hand.  Thirty minutes a day, an hour a day, once a week or one a month, will make the Center a better and more productive place.  Wear your working gloves, a smile and bring a willing and cooperative spirit.  Call Debbie to volunteer.

Do your part and help Johnson City become an Environmentally Friendly town because its citizens care.

The Johnson City Environmental Board meets 2rd Monday at City Hall.  Come and be a part of us.
