A Star Spangled, Old Fashioned Celebration!

This 5th Annual Johnson City celebration starts with a
parade @ 10a @ the Courthouse Square.

The fun continues at the LBJ Historic Park, with a washer tournament,
kids games, food, music and free fireworks.

Mark your calendars and be sure to join us and all the fun!

PARADE: 10:00 start time, and parade will circle around the Courthouse Square. Registration for floats is not required.  Simply build your float/parade entry and show up to participate in the parade.  Location of formation area: City Hall to Methodist Church.  Entries can be elaborate floats, or riding mowers, on horseback,  golf carts, ATV’s, tricycle, bicycles or just spirited citizens walking in the parade. Get creative or get on your horse or mule or just walk along with your favorite critter in the parade.   Make it reflect what interests you.  Our theme is an Old Fashioned 4th parade. Norma Honeycutt will be our Grand Marshall.

WASHER PITCHING TOURNAMENT: At the LBJ National Historic Park at the south end of Nugent, right after the parade, the Washer Pitching Tournament will begin. Registrations will be done at the site, $20 entry team fee required. Books Open at 1:00 PM and Close Promptly at 2:00 pm.  There will be 16 pitching lanes.  Tournament event starts at 2:30p.

MUSIC: At the LBJ Settlement and National Historic Park area, a great band will entertain us. Bring your lawn chairs or blankets and sit in the shade of the great old trees near the Town Creek and listen to the music.

KIDS GAMES: A variety of Old Fashioned kids games will be organized and available free to all, including sack races, marbles, jacks, stilts, and more. All located at the LBJ National Historic Park.  Starts at 2p.

FOOD: Throughout the day there will be a food court with water melon by-the-slice, drinks, hamburgers (provided by the Lions Club opening up at Noon), Root Beer floats (provided by the Catholic Church), Soccer League will sell Gator Aide, Little League will sell waters, sodas, and maybe snow cones if it is really hot, and the JC Youth Football League will sell sausage-on-a-stick, sausage wraps, lemonade and tea. Yum!

This Food Court will be on South Nugent near the Learning Center of the LBJ National Historic Park and Johnson Settlement entrance area.  Opens at noon.

FIREWORKS:  We will have a traditional, old fashioned fire works display at the LBJ Settlement and National Historical Park (not at the Fair Grounds as in past years), starting at dusk. Parking will be available at the park, with the entrance open on the west side of the Park (turn as road across from the 290 Diner).  Bring your blanket, lawn chairs, refreshments, and bug spray.  Johnson City VFD will supervise the fireworks. Paid for by Johnson City Bank.
