Johnson City’s best-tasting event is almost here. The Texas Men’s State Chili and Barbecue Championships will be held at the Blanco County Fairgrounds on Saturday, March 31. Two hundred cooks from as far away as Illinois and California will be coming to town to compete for the championship title.
This is the fourth year the cook-off is being held in Johnson City. It brings thousands of visitors to our city. Proceeds from the event go toward supporting a number of local charities including the Johnson City Fire Department, the North Blanco County EMS, the Fairground Association, and more.
The chili cook-off is sanctioned by the Chili Appreciation Society International (CASI) and the top three cooks will qualify to cook in the Terlingua International Chili Championship. The barbecue event is sanctioned by the Lone Star Barbecue Society. The grand champion will qualify to cook in Kansas City.
Texas Men’s State is fun for the entire family. It features food, showmanship, music, vendors, a Corvette car show, a great silent auction, and cooking demonstrations by the Bruce Foods Cajun Injector Cooking Team from Louisiana.
Sponsors are Cheryl & Rick Pratt, Joe Stewart, and Joe Ginn from Century 21 Town Creek Realty, Ancira Motorhomes, H-E-B, Texas Rebel Radio Network, and the Silver K Café, the Real Ale Brewing Company, Remax, Cattlemen's Bank, Johnson City Bank, Moursund Land Title Co., and Moursund Insurance.
Plan to attend and spend the day. The event is open to the public from 10 AM until 4 PM. Admission is free.
